The inhospitable and uninhabited island between Rab and Senj represents one of the most symbolically important places in the modern history of Croatia, that is, the former Yugoslavia. But from the former camp, later the prison on Goli otok, all that remains are abandoned and dilapidated buildings where sheep graze in the winter and tourists walk in the summer in search of an experience of the past that took place there. Goli otok was the largest camp in the system of camps and prisons for imprisoning Ibeans. In the six years of its existence, about 13,000 people passed through it, and hundreds of people died in various ways on the island. In the period from 1949 to 1956, there were several smaller camps on Goli otok, three for men and one for women. Goli otok has such a name because of the high temperature in summer and strong storms from Velebit, which make this place necessary for the growth of any vegetation.
